WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital on the morning of June 14, and his office said the Kentucky senator was “receiving excellent care.”

McConnell spokesperson David Popp did not disclose the reason for the hospitalization, and the senator’s office did not identify the hospital.

In a June 16 statement to CBS News, Popp said McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters,” indicating the senator was continuing to work with his team while hospitalized.

McConnell, 84, was also hospitalized earlier this year. On Feb. 2, he checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the previous weekend, according to a statement from Popp.

McConnell was discharged from that hospital stay on Feb. 10. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
