NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies said Paul Pelosi, 86, is being referred to prosecutors after they say he struck a legally parked car with a brown convertible and left the scene in Yountville.

Deputies responded about 2:30 p.m. July 3 to the 6700 block of Yount Street in Napa County, the sheriff’s office said. No injuries were reported.

A preliminary alcohol screening test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.00, and investigators ruled out driving under the influence, according to the sheriff’s office account. Pelosi told deputies he had hit something but said he did not know what he had struck.

The sheriff’s office said it did not arrest Pelosi, calling that common for the offense under California Penal Code section 853.6. The case was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review, and a California DMV re-evaluation referral was said to be forthcoming.

The Napa County District Attorney’s Office also filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi in 2022 after a separate Napa County crash, according to a June 23, 2022, press release. That office said then that a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content and that Pelosi was to be released pending an arraignment in Napa County Superior Court.
